Royals

One of my favourite trips of all time was a camping road trip through Botswana. Sleeping on the roof of our Landcruiser, in the wilderness...few things can beat that feeling of freedom. One morning around 4am, while sleeping blissfully in the Central Kalahari, we woke up to the loud roaring of lions. It was clear that they were quite close, and listening to their roars in this untamed wilderness was electrifying. The roaring continued and got progressively louder as the hours went by, and when we left camp at 6am we found them less than a km from our camp. Two gorgeous males with two females by their sides: two mating pairs. In the beautiful golden light of sunrise we watched them for as long as we could before we had to make our way to our next stop. It was a gorgeous sighting.
